Licensed Independent Insurance Advisors are required to certify each year with the Medicare health insurance plans we represent. We do this to keep you informed of the most recent changes to Medicare and to share what the market currently has to offer. Our expertise is designed to make your insurance experience a positive one.
Understanding the basic parts of Medicare
Original Medicare: Parts A & B
- Medicare Part A- Major medical (inpatient hospital, skilled nursing facility, home health); deductible applies
- Medicare Part B- Outpatient services (doctor visits, durable medical equipment, outpatient tests and therapies, labs, preventive services, etc.) deductible and 20% coinsurance applies
Medicare Supplement (Medigap)
- Medicare Supplements, also known as Medigap plans, are private health insurance plans designed to pay for the remaining eligible out-of-pocket expenses that are not covered by Original Medicare (such as copays, deductibles and coinsurance)
- Medigap plans pay secondary to Original Medicare A & B, but do not include coverage for prescription drugs, vision, hearing, or dental, and have a separate monthly premium
Part D: Prescription Drug Plans
- Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (Part D) are offered by private insurance companies to cover prescription medications that are typically not covered by Original Medicare
- These are stand-alone plans with separate monthly premiums, drug formularies, and pharmacy networks
Part C: Medicare Advantage
- Medicare Advantage Plan (MAPD) is also known as Medicare Part C
- These plans provide an alternative way to receive your Medicare benefits, but are offered by privately owned insurance carriers which are approved by Medicare
- They must provide at least as much coverage as Original Medicare, however they may also include additional benefits such as Part D prescription drug coverage, vision, hearing, dental, over-the-counter items and fitness benefits
- Most Medicare Advantage Plans have a network of doctors and follow a managed-care model
- If you chose to enroll in an MAPD plan, you cannot also enroll in to a Medigap or Part D Prescription Drug Plan

When you become eligible for Original Medicare A & B due to turning age 65 or because of a disability, you may have limited time to enroll. This is called your Initial Election Period (IEP). If you do not enroll during your IEP, you may have to pay more later. If you have other creditable coverage, you may be able to waive your Medicare without penalty. Please contact us today to discuss your specific situation.
Original Medicare A & B does not cover all expenses. Medicare partners with private insurance companies to help fill in the gaps that Original Medicare does not cover. There are many different plan options depending on where you live, how much you are comfortable spending, and what coverage you need.

Hello, my name is Janine M. Rehkop and I am the Founder of Mountain View Insurance Services, as well as an Independent Insurance Advisor who Specializes in Medicare. I have been working in the health insurance field since 2004 and decided after the Pandemic that it was time to put my efforts where they mattered most, my community! During the week, you will find me working in my home office, meeting with clients in their homes, and keeping up with the latest Medicare updates.
